The Silver Sands Primary ER and Critical Care Center opened its doors July 1, 2007 to provide a new service to the greater Milford, CT area. The center is a combination of a conventional Primary Care Center with a state-of-the-art ER and Critical Care Department. It is a community veterinary care facility with the following MISSION:

To provide Primary Care to the patients of the area with an emphasis on preventive medicine, nutrition, and comprehensive health exams based on patient age.
To provide an ER Center that is open 24 hours each day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to evaluate, diagnose, and treat life threatening emergencies in companion animals.
To provide a Critical Care Center to manage complex medical and surgical problems in patients from Silver Sands Primary Center or transfer patients from other veterinary hospitals. Our center is staffed with certified veterinary technicians and highly trained veterinary nurses under Medical Director, DH DeForge, VMD.
To provide an environment of compassion and caring with a nursing staff that is different. Compassionate Care Nurses [CCNs] handle, pet, talk to, and communicate one-on-one in a team nursing program that translates into the same love and bonding found in the home environment. This is a unique department of specialized nursing developed and maintained at The Silver Sands Primary ER and Critical Care Center
To communicate with referring doctors with detailed computer generated and clearly written medical and surgical reports.
To transfer patient data clearly and immediately to veterinarians utilizing our center.
To send clinical laboratory, pathology, radiology, surgical, and special imaging reports immediately to the doctor(s) referring to our ER and Critical Care Center
To communicate clearly to the owners of the patients in both the Primary ER and Critical Care Departments of our Center. The trained Primary and ER doctors will explain cases in detail, provide clearly composed reports, and have comprehensive follow-up communications. Veterinary technicians man a phone-bank to answer your questions at any time in consult with the staff doctors.
Most importantly, if the time comes to say good-bye to your friend, the Silver Sands Primary ER and Critical Care team will be there with you every step of the way to let you know that they care and to help you through a very difficult time.
