Neonatal and Perinatal ICU Ward in Development at Silver Sands
Silver Sands Primary and Urgent Care is in the process of developing the first Neonatal and Perinatal ICU Ward in Connecticut. Stage One has been completed with the introduction of the Draeger-Air Shields C2000e Isolette®. This unit opens our Pediatric Ward for emergency care, perioperative care, critical care, perinatal care, and neonatal care. This human technology has been integrated into Silver Sands to offer a "new frontier" in Urgent Care for the trauma patient or C-section patient post-surgery (neonates and mother).
 The temperature, humidity, and oxygen concentration is controlled by a forced air circulation system. In the temperature override mode, the temperature in the Isolette can be maintained from 98.6 degrees F up to 102.2 degrees F. The incubator air temperature is monitored by a probe located in the sensor module and compared with the air set temperature parameter. The information from the probe is supplied to a heater control system which regulates the heater output to maintain the air temperature setting. The patient temperature is a function of air temperature and the ability of the neonate/trauma patient to establish and maintain their own temperature. A temperature sensing probe is attached directly to the skin of the patient. This allows acute control of the incubator temperature in the skin sensor mode. A scale and weight trend computer monitor is built into the unit.
A humidity system allows the patient to have proper airway moisture at all times while oxygen is being administered. Computer system displays include temperature, trends, weight, oxygen, and humidity.
