
Dr. Don DeForge, Medical Director
In the late 80's, after fifteen years as a primary care and ER doctor, Dr. DeForge began his journey in the advanced oral care of companion animals. In 1996, Dr. DeForge received both the Northeast Region Outstanding Practitioner Award from the American Animal Hospital Association and the Peter Emily Resident Award presented by the American Veterinary Dental College for the outstanding candidate in an alternative pathway program or residency program. Dr. DeForge has continued his journey in oral care and is the editor of An Atlas of Veterinary Dental Radiology. The 2nd Edition of this book will be available in soft cover in the spring of 2008 for veterinarians, specialists in oral care, veterinary students, and for the aspiring oral care technician-veterinary hygienist. He is a monthly columnist in Veterinary Practice News discussing problems in oral care for the continuing education of the general practitioner. Dr. DeForge directs the CT and NY Oral Care Specialty Centers with operatories at Silver Sands Veterinary Center in CT, at the Center for Specialized Veterinary Care in Westbury, Long Island, and at The East End ER and Specialty Center in Riverhead, Long Island. He is an adjunct instructor at Northwestern CT College and Mercy College in Oral Radiology and Periodontology. With 37 years in primary and ER care, he is now the Medical Director of the Silver Sands Primary ER and Critical Care Center [SSP[ER]CCC].
